Previously known as the 'The Municipal Auditorium', it was established in the year 1937. It got its present name in 1967 during which the auditorium underwent a renovation.

This center is one of its kind being a perfect combination of historical sophistication and state of art music facilities. The building is made of limestone and is decorated with beautiful chandeliers.

The Center includes the Freede Little Theatre, Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theatre, City Space, Joel Levine Rehearsal Hall and the Meinders Hall of Mirrors. Normally the venue hosts around 250 performances every year in front of 2500 spectators.

There is a 4-tier arrangement for the orchestra along with a facility of balcony seats. The four story atrium is magnificent and there is also a coffee shop for the patrons. The acoustic sound arrangement of the hall is laudable and it also includes a basement theatre.

The Civic Center Music Hall has 8 resident companies. Some of them are Black Liberated Arts Center, Celebrity Attractions, Canterbury Choral Society, and Oklahoma City Ballet. There is also a Civic Center Foundation, which is a non-profit organization providing financial assistance to the Hall in hosting the shows. This was established in 2001.
