
Oklahoma City Zoo
Located in north east Oklahoma, the famous Oklahoma City Zoo is a botanical garden and a zoo. It spans over 110 acres and houses more than 1700 animals. It is a member of the American Association of Museums and Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The zoo charges an admission fee. Animal lovers, on their Oklahoma City travel must make it a point to visit the zoo. It is open on all days except New Year's Day, Christmas and Thanksgiving.

The Cat forest/Lion overlook, built over an area of 4.2 acres, at the zoo, houses snow leopards, tigers, lions and 9 types of wild cats. It also has over 4000 plants that create a forest like environment. The butterfly garden has 15,000 plants and spans over an area of 21,000 square feet. It has a wide variety of butterflies. They include the Eastern Black Swallowtail, Painted Lady, the Giant Swallowtail and the Monarch Butterflies.
The Great Escape, which is built over 6 acres, has a family of orangutans, gorillas and chimpanzees that live in rainforest like surroundings. Aquaticus is home to more than 1,500 aquatic creatures like the coral and California sea lion.
Oklahoma Trails is a recent addition to the zoo. It was opened on 10th March in the year 2007. With an area of 7.7 acres it houses Oklahoma's native animals. They include Bison, Alligators, Black Bears, Beavers and over two dozen species of snakes. The walk-in bird exhibit has owls, skunks and bats.
Another section at the zoo, that is known as Island Life is home to amphibians, birds and reptiles from all over the world. It also has a Herpetarium with more than 80 exhibits. Some of the creatures at Island Life are Caribbean Flamingo, San Esteban Island Lizards, Abaco Island Boas and Galapagos tortoises.
Other attractions at the zoo are a carousel, the Sea Lion show, two mini-trains, a climbing wall, a safari tram and swan paddleboats. A trip to the zoo, makes Oklahoma City ok travel a fun filled experience.
