Science Museum Oklahoma Guide: The City's Only Science Museum and Smithsonian Affiliate

The Science Museum Oklahoma is situated right in the center of Adventure District, Oklahoma City. The Science Museum Oklahoma is part of Smithsonian Affiliations and holds the status of being the only Smithsonian affiliate of Oklahoma City.

The Science Museum Oklahoma features a planetarium known as the Kirkpatrick Planetarium, a dome theater and a host of museums and galleries showcasing science exhibits. The Kirkpatrick Planetarium offers a night view of the sky and its celestial objects. The USP of the planetarium is that the staffs working here work round the clock to update their database with regular inputs from NASA.

After an enlightening show at the planetarium, it's time to visit the dome theater for the next show. The dome is 70 foot in diameter and has a projection system for 15/70mm films. The 15,000W bulb of the projector and the 36,000W sound system provides an out of the world effect with crystal clear real life images and heart pounding sounds. The audience is automatically transported to another world.

After the show ends at the dome theater, it's time to visit the various exhibits, galleries and the museums. Notable among them are Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame that contains various capsules and simulators, explorazone that showcases exhibits based on colors, lights and sounds. Red Earth Museum that showcases exhibits from the Red Indian culture and the Tinkering Garage that allows children to experiment with tools, create and design cars, race them and conduct various other experiments.

The Oklahoma City Museum Of Art began in the early 1900's before it moved to its Visual Arts Center at the turn of the millennium, which features multiple exhibition rooms for movies as well as an educational center.
