The Oklahoma City ballet is a professional dance school located in North Classen of the city. The ballet started around 1963 as Oklahoma City Civic Ballet. The ballet was located in the Science and Arts Foundation building and later shifted to a building donated by Robert Hefner.The Oklahoma City Ballet Society came into existence from 1967 and in the same year the ballet performed the first ever festival of arts.
The purpose of the festival was to celebrate the city's 60th statehood. The culturally enriched dance center of the ballet continues in their endeavor to train students interested in becoming professional ballet dancers. On successful completion of the training their students have been absorbed for advanced classes in School of American Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet etc. These students also have the option of going professional after the training.
The ballet has to offer plenty in the year 2010-2011. With performances like "The Phantom of the opera", The Nutcracker, Masters and Moderns and Mozart's Requiem, the visitors will never be short of exciting entertainment. The city ballet also does a mounting amount of social work. They fish out talents from the city and train them under their able guidance. They also have provision for scholarship to talented students.
The ballet management also gives out lots of special offers for families and children. You can also take dance classes here. Children are also welcomed here to try out their skills. However the minimum age is 3 for undergoing training. You can also donate in their fund to help this great cause rocket forward.
